Nick’s 1953 Kurtis

Nick’s 1953 Kurtis

Here are a couple of photos of Nick’s latest toy. This is a 1953 Kurtis 500S sports car. It looks like it could eat you alive! I haven’t ridden in it yet, but everyone that does comes back with a smile on their face!

You can see more of his cars at his website: http://offy223.com

  1. This is terrible but I thought I’d take a look at your and Dale Kurtz’s web sites and when I got to yours the first thing I saw was that Nick has a Frank Kurtis car. I have a friend that had # 38 of the 39 cars made. It was actually made however in the 1990’s by Franks’ son so it is not actually a 50’s car. It was identical in every way and driving it was like being strapped on top of a rocket. He had me drive it to a show one time because he wanted to have both his cobra and the Kurtis car there at the same time. O. K. anyway I’m going to look at art now, tell Nick I’d like to talk about the car when next we get together. P.S. I hope I didn’t know this before and am blanking it as badly as I blanked the fact that we all who were at dinner that night were there because of our common wedding date. So I AM as stupid as I look and now you know. Hope to see you guys soon, Kyall

  2. About the KK500S at your website – It appears to be one of the cars built by Jon Ward in 1991, rather than by Arlen Kurtis, whose replicas came later. Since the car sports the full cage of the first three Ward built cars (meaning it was intended as a full-on race car), and since it is orange, it probably is KK500S029, the car Jon drove to victory in the 1991 La Carrera Panamericana. If you look on the left upper frame rail, opposite the exhaust manifold, you should see “KK500S029″. That would confirm its identity. While this car has been altered (largely stock engine, removal of dry sump system, etc), it should still go really well. I owned #030 and it was a thrill to drive, although is was barely civilized enough for the street. Hope you (or whoever the owner is) enjoys it.
