Alvaro Castagnet Workshop

Alvaro Castagnet Workshop

I attended a workshop with Alvaro in Tucson, AZ in March. This was a four day workshop sponsored by the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild. It was a great workshop—well organized and great information. I’m not sure what was more beneficial to me; watching AC paint or listening to his “lectures.”

I took as many notes as possible and painted several paintings. I learned so much and now I need to practice to see if I can apply some of the knowledge. Learning the secret behind a magician’s trick is a world away from preforming that trick yourself. However I came away inspired and at the same time humbled at the realization of how difficult it is to make a simple, elegant painting. Alvaro is a great teacher and an even better artist.

  1. I’ll be attending a workshop with him in Columbus OH in November. Any suggestions for how to get the most out of it? I’ve got his book and recent video, and have some of the squirrel mop brushes he uses. Also, how much did he and the students paint plein air versus inside?

    Thanks.

    Jim.
