Nick\'s Kurtis

Here are a couple of photos of Nick’s latest toy. This is a 1953 Kurtis 500S sports car. It looks like it could eat you alive! I haven’t ridden in it yet, but everyone that does comes back with a smile on their face!

My New Studio

As soon as I returned from the workshop in March, my family and I started working on my new studio! It was a big group effort. Most of the work was done by my husband Nick and my Dad. We also convinced every family member and friend we could to help out in one way or another!

About two months later, it’s done! The studio is about 20′ x 24′ and has large north facing windows. It is beautiful! I am so thankful to have a space of my own to paint in.

Here are some views from my studio

Alvaro Castagnet Workshop

May 9th, 2008 1 comment

I attended a workshop with Alvaro in Tucson, AZ in March. This was a four day workshop sponsored by the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild. It was a great workshop—well organized and great information. I’m not sure what was more beneficial to me; watching AC paint or listening to his “lectures.”

I took as many notes as possible and painted several paintings. I learned so much and now I need to practice to see if I can apply some of the knowledge. Learning the secret behind a magician’s trick is a world away from preforming that trick yourself. However I came away inspired and at the same time humbled at the realization of how difficult it is to make a simple, elegant painting. Alvaro is a great teacher and an even better artist.

Achievement Award from the Watercolor Society of Oregon

Exciting News! I was recently given an achievement award in the 43rd Annual Aqueous Media Exhibition of the Watercolor Society of Oregon. In simpler terms, my painting was in the top 5 of the 80 paintings accepted in the WSO Spring 2008 Show. This honor even came with some prize money! My painting will tour Oregon with the other top 20 paintings. Right now they are at the Grants Pass Museum of Art and in June they head to the Emerald Art Center in Springfield. Visit the WSO website for more info.
