Florence Painting Retreat

October 4th, 2007 No comments

Seven of my painting friends and I recently headed to Florence, Oregon for a three day painting retreat at the Oregon coast. We had a wonderful time!

Wednesday we had a picnic lunch and painted at the Umpqua Lighthouse. Then we checked into Driftwood Shores Resort which is right on the beach. Dinner was amazing, a small but great restaurant on the river, Waterfront Depot. I can still taste the crab-encrusted halibut with creamy chili sauce—yum-o!

Thursday we went into old town and enjoyed sunshine while we painted boats and scenery and managed to fit in lunch, shopping and coffee before the fog rolled in. Back at Driftwood shores we enjoyed homemade wine, great conversation and gorgeous views.

Friday was spent at Judy’s float house on Lake Tahkenitch. It’s an adorable little cabin accessible by boat only and decorated in Judy’s favorite retro-eclectic style. Can you tell that we had a great time?! Can’t wait for our next retreat!!!

Plein Air Watercolor Workshop in Roseburg, Oregon Sept. 6, 7, 8 2007

What a fun and enjoyable workshop! Thursday was spent on the grounds of the Umpqua Valley Arts Association. I did a quick demo showing the process of creating a value study and a color sketch, then the class spread out to work individually. The weather was perfect with nice evening light. Once again on Friday we were at UVAA and enjoyed the atmosphere of the opening reception for the 100 Valleys Art Show. Saturday we spent the day at Melrose Vineyards, a gorgeous location with beautiful scenes every direction!

During the workshop, I did several demos and helped people individually. We also wrapped up each day with a group display and critique. I was inspired by the participants’ enthusiasm and efforts!
