Salem Art Fair

I had a great time at the Salem Art Fair this last weekend. The weather was nice, cloudy and a little muggy, but overall very pleasant. This was my first time at the festival and it was fun to see all the activities involved. Friday kicks off with a great children’s parade. A clown was by our booth for most of the day making balloon animals for the kids. Saturday had a large attendance with lots of good food and music. Su

nday was a little quieter and more relaxed which gave me more time to talk with people and see other artists. There were over 200 artist booths there and about 40 painters, so there was a lot to see!

One highlight of the weekend was meeting a long-lost friend of Nick’s, Hildy and her husband

Randy. Hildy lived at the commune that Nick’s family had in the late 60’s and early 70’s (a story for another time). She was one of the first and most well-known tie-dye artists and had a shop in the Haight and Ashbury area. It was nice to meet her and I hope to get together and hear some of her stories and see photos of her work. (No, she doesn’t wear tie-dye anymore!)

To all the people that I met, don’t hesitate to keep

in touch. A big thank you to my new collectors. I appreciate your support and hope you enjoy the paintings! Also thanks to the staff and volunteers who made it a wonderful art fair.

  1. I wonder if the commune mentioned was Living Springs in Quines Creek, as founded by Bill Pappas. I spent about a week there in 1969 and have some interesting memories.

  2. Yes, it was Living Springs. Bill is my husband’s dad. From the stories I hear it was an amazing time and place!
