Tomorrow I leave for Salem to set up and get ready for this weekend’s art fair. Which means today is the last day to finish paintings and framing. We’ll see how many I can finish at the last minute! I’ve been working on a few abstracts and hope to get a landscape done today. Then I need to print out some brochures, get my supplies ready and start packing.
I’m really looking forward to the event. This will be the largest art festival that I have participated in and I’m very excited! The weather is supposed to be warm and sunny so attendance should be good. It will be a great weekend!

Hi Vinita
Enjoyed your site – neat and clean!
I do high end very contemporary sculpture in some of the best shows in the US but not much in the Northwest. I am considering the Salem A/F with Bellevue, WA, and also to visit my son in Grad. school at Portland State. Do you feel the Salem show might be receptiver for contemporary work? Is there a lot of low end craft work mixed in there?
Thank you in advance Renee – Florida
Hi Renee,
Last year was my first year at Salem. It was a well-run show with good attendance. There were some nice, high end pieces and some typical art festival stuff. I wouldn’t say there were a lot of low end crafts and there is a pretty stringent jurying process. My sales were down compared to other shows I have done. As you know, it’s hard to predict sales and impossible to determine what to expect. I’m not applying this year, not because I didn’t like the show, but because I’m cutting back on festivals for a year or two. I hope this helps a little. Best of luck whatever you decide,
Vinita
